In a timber business, stock is tracked by cubic metre, batch and species
The stock of a timber, veneer or furniture producer cannot be expressed as one number: wood species, thickness, length, quality grade, kiln-dried or green — each is a separate dimension. When this multi-dimensional stock is kept in a spreadsheet or a ledger, the sales team cannot give a firm answer to 'do you have it?' and someone phones the yard.
For these businesses we build systems that record every batch from raw-material intake to finished-goods dispatch by species, size and grade. The kiln schedule is tied to the system; which batch comes out when is visible. Yard counts run on handheld terminals, stock updates as barcodes are scanned. The sales team sees stock while the customer is still on the phone.
